Use a realistic sample brief
You do not need to pretend you have clients to show your skills. Create a practice brief with a clear audience and deliverable. For example, design a short presentation for an imaginary local shop or prepare a cleaned spreadsheet using fictional stock data. Label it as a sample project. Do not publish another person’s private customer information.
Show the problem and the output
Give each project a short title and explain the brief in two or three sentences. Then show the finished work and the decisions behind it. A slide project might explain how you simplified the structure and made the text easier to read. A spreadsheet project might show how you made columns consistent and highlighted missing entries. Describe observable changes rather than inventing business results.
Make your role explicit
Say which parts you created yourself and which assets or templates you used. Check the relevant permissions before including someone else’s images, fonts or work. If you collaborated, explain your contribution. If the brief is fictional, say so. Clear labels help a visitor understand your experience without relying on exaggerated claims.
Choose quality over a long list
Start with a small selection of completed, relevant projects. Check spelling, mobile readability and download links. Give each project one obvious way to view it. A buyer should not need to open several folders to find your best work. Remove unfinished samples and examples that do not match the service you want to offer.
A practical project checklist
For each sample, include the brief, your role, the deliverable, a preview and a short process explanation. Finish with the type of work you are available to discuss. Avoid fabricated testimonials, client logos or revenue claims. Review your portfolio whenever your service changes so the examples still represent what you can deliver.
